Cost of Digital Hearing Aids

Inexpensive Hearing Aids

Inexpensive hearing aids are often difficult to come by. Even going back 20 years when hearing aids were sold by door to door salesman there was never such a thing as inexpensive hearing aids. For many people the cost of hearing amplifier is an important factor when the comparing hearing aids when making a decision between analog hearing aides and digital hearing aids.

Some people might be shocked to see hearing aids prices as high as $8,000. Hearing aid prices can very a lot depending on where you buy them so it pays to do your own research and find the website offering low cost hearing aids. Most of the time insurance companies are not interested in helping you with the cost of these devices. This is a total scam making affordable hearing aids very difficult to find.  More and more baby boomers are aging and needing help with their hearing loss and need a good budget hearing aid.

There are a number of cheap hearing devices out on the market. There are a few As Seen On TV products being advertised right now. One of the more popular as seen on tv products is the Lee Majors Bionic Hearing aid. They have a pretty good deal where you can try them out free for thirty days and all you have to pay is the shipping charge. The other nice feature of these hearing aids is that they have rechargeable batteries so you don’t have to spend money all the time replacing them. Tv Ears, Sonic Silver XL, Loud & Clear to name a few. The last two products seem to have really bad customer service so buy beware.

The truth of the matter is that not every one needs the fancy digital hearing aids that have all the latest features and of course a gigantic price tag. For those elderly people who are in a retirement home and spend much of their day watching tv a budget hearing aid is the way to go. In fact the person wearing the hearing device might not even be able to tell the difference.

If you are convinced that that digital aids are for you and you are still looking for a hearing amplifier then you do have some options. The hearing aid companies are starting to offer budget digital hearing aids as more and more people look to switch from analog to digital and are unable to pay for the upgrade.

I have reviewed some of the best digital aids including the best hearing aid reviews. So feel free to check out that information as well as the rest of the wealth of information gathered here on the site. I will be posting more on inexpensive hearing aids so check back soon.

Least expensive way is to get a “personal amplifier”- a web search will turn up several. Williams sound makes several good ones. There is a bunch of junk in this category of product, so expect to spend in the $200- $300 range to be happy. If you spend less than $80- you might as well just set fire to the money and skip the middle man. Remember that these product have NO BACKGROUND NOISE CONTROL- that is why they are so cheap. They work best in a reasonably quiet room with one person speaking at a time.

If the need is for an inexpensive aid that works in a dining hall with some degree of success- The new Starkey AMP or a similar product from other manufacturers might do the trick. We recently saw a product called Q Leaf that seemed to have a good range of products, but they were in the same price range as the AMP ($1500 a pair).

  4. My mother cannot hear on the telephone. I am looking for an inexpensive hearing aid for her so I can talk to her on the phone. I cannot visit her at the nursing home as much as I would like so I try to call her everyday. She is 86 and only has trouble hearing on the phone.

    • Telephone mother in NH.–

The best product is an amplified phone or a telephone amplifier. Both should be available from your local hearing aid dealer or do a search on the web for “amplified telephone” and follow the links. This assumes that your mom can understand when the volume gets high enough. There is a huge difference between what a person can hear and what they can understand. If she can not process the language- no device will help her understand.

If your mom can not understand you when you raise your voice in the same room and she has her eyes shut- she will not do well with the amplified telephone or any hearing aid.
